Matthew McConaughey really broke out on screen with his performance back in Dazed and Confused while chiming “alright alright alright”.

Fast forward, with tonnes of recognition and an Oscar under the belt, he’s still putting in the work necessary to be more than ubiquitous and famous for doing good.

Matthew and his wife Camila Alves McConaughey have three children: Levi Alves McConaughey who is 12 , Vida Alves McConaughey who is 11 and Livingston Alves McConaughey who is 8.

The 50 year old actor reflects on his late father James Donald McConaughey, who had passed away back in 1992, before getting his son in any movie. He remembers and quotes

“The first night back, I was walking around and it hit me that my father was no longer here, but I could still keep his spirit alive if I talked aloud to him.So, 28 years later, I’ve been unable to find anything that isn’t better if you take that mantra and slap it on it.

McConaughey revealed how the death of his father in 1992 changed him.

“A boy loses his father, he quickly becomes a man. I was 22. I remember clearly the sobriety I felt in the pain of my father passing. “

McConaughey, further added on how his perspective changed after losing his father :

“Everything I revered and looked up to suddenly dropped to eye level and felt more mortal and attainable, while everything I had patronized and looked down upon rose up to a more respectful eye level and wasn’t beneath me

Having kids of his own has made him reflect on parenting and understand why it means Tough love at times.

“Affluent people can give their kids everything they want, but they’re not usually going to get what they need,” the actor continued. “Loving a child is a lot harder if you really give a damn. ‘No’ takes a lot more energy. It’s a lot easier to say ‘yes.’

On talking about how he wants to raise his kids and want qualities he wants to instill in them, he states,

“Here’s my favorite trait that I want to instill in my children. Understanding the value of delayed gratification. That’s it. That really seems to be the ticket. We talk to them about the sirs and the ma’ams. I tell them it’s out of respect for your elders. But on a selfish level, it means you’ll get more of what you want later in life. You’ll get more of what you want with good manners so it’s actually a very selfish thing that will pay off for you. Do your homework on Friday afternoon so you don’t have to be interrupted on Sunday afternoon when you have a friend over and we tell you you have to quit playing to do your homework.”

Levi Alves Mcconaughey

Levi Alves McConaughey, their first son was born on July 7, 2008. Interestingly Matthew once narrated how he saved his son from mountain charging Ram by tossing him close to 15 feet in the air, while he was on a family picnic.

Additionally, Matthew further shares that Levi’s birth was a long process, part of which was accompanied by music. As Camila endured painful contractions at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, McConaughey doubled as a DJ, playing “roots” Brazilian music at the hospital.

The surgical procedure took only a fraction of the 60 hours Camila spent giving birth in the hospital, the whole experience was a great journey for the couple.

On January 3, 2010, Matthew McConaughey, welcomed their second child in the form a girl. The named her Vida Alves McConaughey. “Vida”, which means life in Portuguese is her mother’s look alike as is evident from the rare social media presence she makes.
